AlcoMeasure WM1 integration

AlcoMeasure WM1 integration

Required Items

  1. Doorkeeper Pro

  2. AlcoMeasure Breathalyser

  3. BLE Serial RS232 adapter

Step 1: Configuring the BLE Serial RS232 adapter

The purpose of the BLE Serial RS232 adapter is to convert the serial data signal from AlcoMeasure into a BLE signal (Bluetooth Low Energy), which Doorkeeper (iPad) can receive.

Any BLE Serial RS232 device should work; however, ensure that your adapter is BLE and not Bluetooth 2.0, 2.1, etc.

In this guide, we are using this particular device: uConnect S2B5232I. The key settings are:

  1. Baud rate set to 115200 (AlcoMeasure also needs to be set to 115200 to match.)

  2. DTE (Data Terminating Equipment).

These settings can be configured via the manufacturer's software; however, using the DIP switches is much simpler.

Set DIP switch 9 to 1 (up). This enables switch configuration (as opposed to software config).

Set DIP switch 3 to 1 (up), Switches 3-2-1 as 1-0-0 sets the baud rate to 115200.

Finally, check that the adapter is in DTE mode.

Step 2: Configuring AlcoMeasure

Step 2.1: Install & Run the AlcoMeasure Utility Setup Tool

Download it here: AlcoMeasure Utility Setup Tool (Windows only)

Step 2.2: Connect PC to AlcoMeasure via USB

Unlock your AlcoMeasure unit to access the Processor PCB.

Connect your PC to the PCB using a USB to USB mini cable. (USB mini connection located above.)

Step 2.3: Configure using AlcoMeasure Utility

  1. Click Connect (top left).

  2. Click Configuration, then click System (bottom of screen).

  3. Click Read Config from Unit (top of screen).

  4. Change these settings

    • 1 - Input Mode: Command

    • 2 - COM3 BAUD: 115200

    • 3 - RS232 Out: Off

    • 4 - RS232 In: COM3

  5. Click Write Config to Unit

Step 3: Connect BLE RS232 adapter to AlcoMeasure

Connect the Serial COM3 port to the BLE RS232 adaptor using a serial cable. Then connect a USB-A to USB mini cable from USB A on the PCB to the BLE adapter. This provides power to the BLE RS232 adapter.

This is what it should finally look like. Manage the cables so that you can carefully close the unit when you're done.

Step 4: Pairing with Doorkeeper Pro

On Doorkeeper Pro, navigate to Settings, then Breathalyser.

After enabling Bluetooth, you should see your BLE adapter in the list. In our case, BLE232.

Select it.

If you tap on "Send Test Command", AlcoMeasure should audibly BEEP, asking you to blow in the straw. You can do so, or wait for it to timeout.

Next, tap on Check In, then select Require Breathalyser. You can decide if Any Identity requires a BAC test, or, selected Labels of Identities.

That's it!

You're all done! Please contact our support team if you require assistance with this.
